test Iron Mountain Leverages LEGATO Technology to Expand Enterprise E-mail Management Services

Licensing Agreement Brings LEGATO’s Mailbox Management Capabilities to Iron Mountain’s E-Mail Archiving Service

June 9, 2003

Boston, MA - Iron Mountain Incorporated (NYSE:IRM), the leader in outsourced records and information management services, today announced the formation of an alliance through which Iron Mountain will license LEGATO’s EmailXtender® technology to offer enterprise customers mailbox management capabilities, as part of Iron Mountain’s outsourced e-mail archiving service.

“Today’s businesses are wrestling with two related e-mail issues. The first is the growing need to manage e-mail and messages as records in accordance with archival and compliance mandates. The second is for IT organizations to effectively combat the costs associated with the management and degradation of e-mail system performance due to the explosive volume of e-mail,” said Charles Brett, senior program director with META Group.

Iron Mountain’s Digital Archives service offers universal electronic records archiving and management across all assets: e-mail, Instant Messaging, enterprise statements and reports, images, etc., and provides Third-Party Downloader services to meet requirements for broker-dealers mandated by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).By integrating LEGATO’s technology into Iron Mountain’s Enterprise Value Archives Architecture TM (EVAA), the Company will be able to offer one solution for the purposes of mailbox management and e-mail records management combined.

With the new enterprise mailbox management capabilities, Iron Mountain can offer customers an archiving rules engine to provide enhanced e-mail capture. The rules allow customers to selectively target e-mails that need to be archived and automatically migrate those e-mails and attachments from the originating e-mail servers to Iron Mountain’s off-site Digital Archives. Migrating the messages and attachments reduces the storage burden on the originating servers – minimizing cost and improving server performance.

“In addition to helping our customers meet complex records management requirements, we see a great opportunity to help them solve the enterprise mailbox management cost burden,” said Pete Delle Donne, president of Iron Mountain’s Enterprise Solutions and Services division.“LEGATO’s technology is highly complementary to our existing Digital Archives service and will allow us to alleviate the whole e-mail management headache for our customers by providing an all-in-one outsourced service.”

With this combined solution, Iron Mountain customers will be able to seamlessly extend their corporate retention schedule to e-mail communications and reduce their overall e-mail management and storage costs. The solution will support Microsoft Exchange™, Lotus Notes®/Domino™, Sendmail® and Bloomberg® mail, as well as Instant Messaging.

“We’re excited about today’s announcement and future opportunities with Iron Mountain,” said Charles Fonner, vice president, LEGATO Worldwide Strategic Alliances & Messaging Business Unit. “As the demand for e-mail management grows, it’s important for technology and service provider leaders such as LEGATO and Iron Mountain to explore ways to meet that demand for the benefit of the customers. This is just the beginning of a strong alliance between our two organizations.”

“With increased scrutiny on an organization’s ability to effectively manage its e-mail environment, vendor alliances offering complete solutions should be well received in the market,” continued Charles Brett of META Group.“While compliance mandates appear to be concentrated on specific industries such as healthcare and financial services, public companies across all industries are finding themselves subject to records retention regulations. As e-mail and Instant Messaging gain momentum as the communication tools of choice in companies worldwide, CIOs and IT organizations must be knowledgeable of the regulations and aware of the solutions available to help them meet these requirements.”
